Hands On: Jacob & Co Astronomia Casino and Masters Anonymity, understatement, caution: if your mindset includes these three concepts, then this article is not for you. Let's be clear: giving up anonymity and discretion doesn't mean showing off or being rude, it just means you're brave enough to dare. Jacob&Co embodies this philosophy well and doesn't delay letting us know. Baselworld may be in decline, but Mr. Arabbo doesn't seem to care. Their stance on Pavilion 1.1 is a manifesto: if you do something, you have to do it in the best (and most contextual) way possible. From champagne to flowers, from staff to caviar, the pomp is not to be missed. On the stand and on the clock. Prompted by European sales director Marco Dragoni, we were fortunate enough to discover some of the brand's creations, including the two Astronomias we'll see in this article. Astronomy, time in 4 dimensions. Since its first launch in 2014, it has become a true Jacob&Co icon, attracting the interest of collectors around the world. The concept is brilliant and expressive: the hours and minutes are displayed on the dial while everything else changes! Technically, we're talking about an in-house manual movement with a two-axis tourbillon for the casino, three-axis for the Maestro. In both cases, the case is rose gold and plenty of sapphire, machined using expensive and advanced techniques to achieve an extra-wide dome with ultra-pure transparency. The two versions don't have much in common technically. Aesthetically, they share the concept, arm movement, lacquered magnesium balls and a one-carat Jacobean cut diamond (288 sides)... There are many watches in history that pay homage to gambling, each with its own innovations. But when you pair the mechanical roulette with Astromia and its features, winning is a sure bet. What is fascinating about this watch is the incredible amount of hidden details, so many that the owner can discover new things at a glance. Mechanical roulette is not fictional. The rotation of the plate, and therefore of the ball, works perfectly and is activated by a pusher at 8 o'clock. The genius of this watch lies in its practical and pleasing fit: operating the roulette wheel is an efficient way to recharge the watch. A terrific idea that introduces an interesting "complexity" that creates power instead of wasting it. The 47mm case, with a height of 27.9mm, is a key aspect of the watch, and the author of this article has a small wrist (less than 6.3 inches). Believe it or not, the size of the watch is an aspect that can be ignored if you compare it to the amazing complications. During its rotation, the dial is always perpendicular to the wrist. As usual, let's focus on what really matters: the actual use of the clock. In typical Astronomia style, the dial maintains a fixed orientation during its 10-minute rotation around the center, making it easy to read wherever it is located. On the wrist, it's incredible. It's almost a shame to wear it instead of simply staring at it for hours and discovering every detail. Aided by the light of diamonds and globes, the movement of the arms and the drama created by the entire mechanism are vivid and synchronized. Dear Jacob, if your goal is to be stunning, then you've reached your goal. refer to. AT160.40.AA.AA.A Master of Astronomy: 50mm of the Universe. The absolute winner of our Basel conference (even if the choice is almost impossible) is the master, sublime in every way, the Picasso of watchmaking. We're talking about a three-axis tourbillon with a minute repeater, moon phase, date and the classic four-arm rotating structure of Astronomia. If you think that's enough, then you probably misunderstood what we're talking about... Minutes Questionnaire: Yes, but don't take it lightly. For the first time in history, we find that the minute repeater chimes develop in a three-dimensional spiral, perfectly stunning through the sides of the sapphire case. The striking of the hours, quarters and minutes consists of three tones. This is much more complicated than the traditional two-note mechanism, as the three notes have to be very precise (C, D, E). Using three pitches instead of two requires creating a melody that requires accurate pitch picking, rather than improving the difficulty of the chime. The end result is surprising, especially refreshing. The moon phase display features unique Jacob cut diamonds divided into hemispheres with a starry night around the arms. The date is around the moon phase, moving with the other 4 parts, making a full circle in 10 minutes. A feature of this piece is that the hours and minutes are located on the dial in the middle of the watch, in stark contrast to other astronomy. On the fourth arm, we find a hand-painted astronaut floating meanderingly around the watch, completing a rotation every 40 seconds. On the wrist, the effect is the same as the astronaut's... It's impossible not to get lost in the beauty of this new universe that Jacob&Co is showing us. Forming the aventurine dial against the background of the constellations, rather than talking about the purity of the tourbillon and sapphire... everything is designed to wow the audience, offering the highest level of innovation and luxury. Again, 50mm is indeed a lot, but by looking at one of the infinite details on the dial, the large size of the watch is quickly forgiven given the complexity we appreciate. On the other hand, Jacob&Co timepieces are masterpieces of engineering, design and innovation, not just complicated watches or chronographs. What's truly astonishing about this brand is the unbelievably stunning effort to never forget what really matters: the performance. Marco tells us that the whole point of Jacob&Co is to create timepieces that are as amazing to wear as they are to use. The winding, hour setting and various functions are super easy to set up and operate, which is not an easy task given the complexities we are in. For us to be able to experience Jacob&Co's collections in real life, a brand that, in our opinion, is leading the way in development and creativity is a real revelation.
